There are plenty of blender models on the market these days. By now you may have spent hours trying to decide which blender is better a Vitamix or Blendtec.
I GET IT!
After using a blender to help heal myself from an unhealthy relationship with food and realizing the potential a good power blender has to help others eat healthier too, I launched Blender Babes in 2012 and made it my mission to use and test every single model available for the home by both Vitamix and Blendtec.
So, whether you’re researching the best blender for smoothies that are silky smooth OR looking to improve your health OR are just ready to upgrade to a better blender – my goal is to share with you a blender expert (and REAL user’s) close comparison to help you determine which blender and model is better for your specific needs.
In this Blendtec vs Vitamix review I will explain all pros and cons, similarities and differences between these two blender brands currently available in terms of: design, features, containers, performance, warranty and price. This will help you determine which blender is most beneficial for you, your family, and your lifestyle.
Throughout the article, you’ll also find some quick links to take you to what you’re most interested in.
After this comparison review, if you’re still having a hard time deciding which exact blender model is right for you, I invite you to schedule a complimentary 15 min sales call with me Tarashaun, Founder of Blender Babes.

(I) Blendtec vs Vitamix 2021 – Price Comparison
I’m going to start with the biggest (and pretty much only) con regarding these two blenders, which is their initial cost. No, these are not the $100 blenders that have probably broken down on you, conveniently just after their measly 1 year warranty ended. Expect to pay $250-$500+ – either all at once or with a long term payment plan if it’s available.
Look at this purchase as an investment in your health. You will own this blender for many, many years to come. You will save money in the long run by making homemade versions of store-bought items and ideally, you will save on future doctor bills.
Please Note: Both Vitamix and Blendtec have less expensive certified reconditioned options which are basically the same as new. The base housing, jars, cookbooks, tamper (Vitamix only) – everything is replaced and guaranteed to work as new . These are the blenders with the most savings and I have purchased several of these (from each brand) for myself and as gifts.
Both companies offer a no-risk 30 day return policy to try out the blender. If you decide it’s not for you within 30 days you can return for a full refund. Vitamix will even pay for return shipping, however Blendtec does not.
Keep in mind you will also receive free shipping + exclusive free gifts from Blender Babes! Click here to learn more about our current free gifts offer for purchasing any Blendtec or Vitamix blenders by using the links from this website and promo codes.
B. The Cost of Vitamix Blenders and Payment Plans
All in all, most of the Vitamix models are a little more expensive than the Blendtec models, unless you get them certified refurbished. Thankfully, Vitamix offers no-interest financing through Paypal (good credit required) for up to 24 months.
Here’s a more detailed discussion on their prices.
1. Vitamix Smart System Blenders – $449-$599

These are the top-of-the-line Vitamix blender models with high end design, Self-Detect containers and digital timers.
Until recently Vitamix Smart System blenders consisted only of their Ascent Series models until they came out with the Vitamix Venturist V1200, detailed below.
2. Vitamix Ascent Series – $449-$599
In January 2017 Vitamix released their highly anticipated and more technologically advanced Vitamix Ascent Series, which range in price from $449 for the Vitamix A2300 and up to $599 for the Vitamix A3500.
All Ascent series blenders have the same 2.2 peak HP motor and low profile compact jar as their (predecessor) Next Generation blenders. They also feature wi-fi capability and for the first time ever, a digital timer.
2.1. Vitamix Ascent A2500 vs A2300
- If you like switch and dial controls they look more modern on the Vitamix A2300 for $469 – with 10-speed variable control dial.
- The Vitamix A2500 is just $50 more at $499 is a step up with 3 automatic settings (smoothies, soup, frozen desserts) + 10-speed variable control.
- Get a great deal with a certified refurbished Vitamix A2500 for $399 – sale price $379. Note: This exclusive $20 discount will be reflected at checkout for using our link.
2.2. Vitamix Ascent A3300 vs A3500 vs A2500
If you’re ready to up your game from knobs and dials (like the A2500) but with the more modern look of the Ascent series, you can choose between 2 more advanced touchscreen options!
- The Vitamix A3300 is $499 with programmable timer + 10-speed variable control.
- BUT… you can get it all with the Vitamix A3500 for $599 – which includes 5 automatic settings + programmable timer + 10 speed variable control.
- You can also take advantage of a great deal on a certified refurbished Vitamix A3500 for $499 – on sale for $479 – Note: This exclusive $20 discount reflected at checkout for using our link
Warranty: New Vitamix Ascent blenders also come with an industry-leading 10-year warranty. Other new models come with a 7-year warranty and most refurbished Vitamix come with a 5-year warranty.
3. Vitamix Venturist V1200 – $449-$629
The Vitamix Venturist V1200 was made specifically to be sold at Costco and is a budget-friendly version of a new Ascent Series model. It’s a cross between the Vitamix Ascent A2300 and A3300 in terms of design and features – with a 10 speed variable control, programmable timer, Self-Detect containers and wi-fi capability connecting to the Vitamix app.
- The Vitamix Venturist V1200 for $629 is only sold new at Costco locations.
- I recommend saving big with a certified refurbished Vitamix Venturist V1200 which also includes a 20 ounce personal blending cup for $449 – exclusive sale for $349. Note: This exclusive discount will only be reflected at checkout for using our link.
4. Vitamix Classic Blenders – $399-$719
There used to be only one Classic Series (aka C-Series) Vitamix blenders, but over the years they came out with several new series of blenders, so they eventually grouped together the Next Generation, C-Series, Vitamix 780 and Explorian Series into what is now known as Vitamix Classic Blenders – detailed below.
5. Vitamix Next Generation G Series: $529 -$719

Prior to the Ascent Series, the Vitamix Next Generation G-Series models were the new kids on the block.
Like the Ascent Series, the Vitamix Next Generation has a more powerful, yet quieter 2.2 HP motor, as well as shorter compact 64 oz jars (which can fit under most kitchen counters).
However, they have similar dials and controls of the older C-Series classic models (except the Vitamix 780).
These originally included the Vitamix 7500 for $529 and Pro Series 300 for $559.
- Save $$$ with the refurbished Vitamix Next Generation (aka 7500 and Pro 300) option for $439.
- You can also get the Vitamix Professional 750 for $599 – which also has 5 automatic settings (smoothie, soup, frozen treats, purees, and cleaning).
- There is a certified refurbished Vitamix 750 known as the Vitamix Next Generation with Programs and is $499 and it’s the one I have sitting on my countertop for testing recipes – no problems whatsoever in the last 5 years.
6. Vitamix 780 First Touchscreen Model – $399-$719
In September 2015 Vitamix released their very first 100% DIGITAL Vitamix 780 – a Next Generation model that features a touchscreen control panel (similar to all Blendtec Designer series blenders) with the same 5 automatic settings as the best-in-class Vitamix 750 and Ascent A3500 (smoothie, soup, frozen treats, purees, and cleaning).
- The Vitamix 780 is $719 and is their most expensive home blender option (I recommend the Vitamix Ascent A3500 over a new 780).
- Vitamix does, however have a certified refurbished Vitamix 780 which is a deal for $519 (dropped to $399!).
7. Vitamix Classic C-Series – $249-$449

7.1. Vitamix 5200 vs 5300
The most widely used and TOP RATED BY AMERICA’S TEST KITCHEN is the iconic Vita Mix, the Vitamix 5200 for $449 – which thankfully also has a less expensive refurbished Vitamix 5200 Standard option for $329.
The Vitamix 5300 has a C-Series body style with Next Generation 2.2 HP motor and 64oz low profile jar, and is only available as a certified certified refurbished Vitamix 5300 option for $359.
7.2. Vitamix 5200 vs 6300 vs 500
Vitamix updated their popular classic 5200 to include their first models with 3 automatic settings (smoothie, soup, and frozen treats) which were the Vitamix 6300 (retired) and Vitamix 500 for $559.
The 6300 and 500 models are available as the much less expensive refurbished Vitamix Standard with Programs option for $379.
8. Vitamix Explorian Series – $289-$449

NOTE: To see a thorough comparison of the Vitamix Explorian E310 vs E320 vs 5300 click here.
The Vitamix Explorian Series consists of the Vitamix E310 for $349 and the Vitamix E320 (only available in some stores) for $449.
Vitamix also offers a certified refurbished Vitamix Explorian E320 for $289 – on sale for $269 Note: The $20 discount reflected at checkout. This is one of my top 5 recommended Vitamix models!
8.1. Explorian E310 vs E320 vs 5300
The Vitamix E310 comes standard with a 48 oz container (good for smaller batches), the same Classic body style with 2 HP motor, 10 variable speed dial and pulse. It is the most cost-effective NEW Vitamix available (unless there’s a good sale going on!) with a 5-year warranty
The Vitamix E320, on the other hand, has a 2.2 peak HP motor and a 64 oz low profile compact jar. The E320 also comes with a full 7-year warranty unless you get the refurbished E320 which has a 5 year warranty.
As for the refurbished Vitamix 5300 ($359) it features the same 2.2 hp motor, 64-ounce low profile container and 10 variable speed dial with a pulse switch. It performs the same as the E320 too. However, the refurbished Vitamix Explorian E320 is a full $70 less.
Note: Brand new full-sized Classic Vitamix blenders come with a 7-year warranty while refurbished Vitamix and Personal Series Vitamix come with a 5-year warranty).
9. Vitamix Personal Series (aka Space Saving Blenders) – $249-$469

The Vitamix Personal Series blenders are single serve blenders that are their answer to popular personal blenders by Ninja and NutriBullet.
Note the new Vitamix S30 and both the and reconditioned Vitamix S55 are all retired products (which means something new may be on the horizon!).
9.1. Vitamix S30 vs S50 vs S55
The introduction of Vitamix’s S-Series “Personal” Blenders started with the Vitamix S30 for $379 (retired)
The Vitamix S50 (retired) and features 2 pre-programmed settings (smoothie and power blend).
The Vitamix S55 (retried) has 4 pre-programmed settings (smoothie, power blend, dips and ice cream).
For the price of a new S-Series blender, I would definitely recommend going for a full sized Vitamix instead.
If you think you want a Vitamix but aren’t sure which model is best for you, see my “Which Vitamix to Buy” review
C. The Cost of Blendtec Blenders and Payment Plans
Most Blendtec blenders cost a little less than Vitamix benders. Blendtec also offers financing through Affirm (good credit not required) but you will pay a little interest.
Blendtec has 3 different classes of blenders – the Professional Series, the Designer Series, and the Classic Series. All Blendtec blenders are 100% automatic and digital – meaning you select a setting or speed and it will stop after a certain amount of time.
Let’s look more closely at their prices.
1. Blendtec Professional Series – $599-$799
The Blendtec Professional Series blenders consist of 2 models, which have been discussed below.

1.1. Blendtec Pro 800 vs 750
The uber quiet Blendtec Professional 800 is their most expensive blender option at $799 (on sale from $1,099!), has a 3.8 peak horsepower motor and is a touchscreen model with 6 pre-programmed settings + 11-speed capacitive touch slider. It’s totally worth it for those that need the massive noise reduction thanks to the sound enclosure.
I highly recommend this blender! I absolutely LOVE that I no longer torture my neighbors, my partner or my toddler with my early morning and late-night blends! Plus it has been really great for when I share my daily blends and tips on our Instagram!
Side Note: I have both the Blendtec Pro 800 and the Vitamix 750 on my countertop for daily use. Yes, I USE AND LOVE BOTH! (serious Blendaholic)
The Blendtec Pro 750 is unique in that it has the ability to be built into your countertop which can save space in your custom kitchen or outside patio. This push button model has 6 pre-programmed settings + 10 speeds and their standard 3 peak horsepower motor.
2. Blendtec Designer Series– $399-$679
The specialty of all Blendtec Designer Series blenders is that they have a beautiful touchscreen interface.

2.1. Blendtec Designer 675 vs 625 vs 650
The Blendtec Designer 675 on sale for $499, features 5 pre-programmed settings + 8-speed capacitive touch slider + Add 10.
The Blendtec Designer 625 for $449 on the other hand, is priced a bit less and has the 4 most popular pre-programmed settings + 6-speed capacitive touch slider. It also features the most (super fun!) color options. There is also a certified reconditioned Designer 625 for $399 which is one of my “best on a budget” picks.
The Blendtec Designer 650 for $449 is a relatively new model they introduced which has the original 6 pre-programmed settings that the Total Blender Classic has and the first Designer model had, but with 8 speeds. Since it’s got more features for the same price than a new Designer 625 it’s a no brainer to get this instead.
2.2. Blendtec Designer 725
The top of the line Designer Series blender is the Blendtec Designer 725 on sale for $599.
This super advanced touchscreen blender has 6 pre-programmed settings + 100 (yes I said one hundred!) speed capacitive touch slider + Add 10 (can add time to blends!) + bonus rewards. Oh, and it also has an uber powerful 3.8 peak HP motor.
There is a slightly less expensive certified reconditioned Designer 725 for $549 but it has a 3 year warranty vs a 7 year for new.
Note: The Designer 725 is my 2nd FAVORITE Blendtec model (after the quiet Pro 800), due to all the advanced features and bells and whistles. If you’re a tech nerd (like me!) you will not be disappointed. It’s the most advanced blender I’ve ever tested and you can see my full Blendtec Designer 725 review here.
3. Blendtec Classic Series – $230-$379
This series of Blendtec Classic Series blenders are special because they feature push-button settings and speeds.

4. Blendtec Total Blender Classic
The least expensive and oldest Blendtec model is the refurbished Blendtec Total Blender Classic for $279 and features the older Classic body style and includes 6 pre-programmed settings + 10 speeds.
This model previously was only sold reconditioned but due to it’s popularity and features they started manufacturing it new again. For the price of a new one, however it’s better to get a Designer Series.
4.1. Blendtec Classic 575 vs Total Blender Classic. vs Fit
A new Blendtec Classic 575 for $399 blender has the top 4 most used pre-programmed settings + 5 speeds, as well as several color options. There is also a reconditioned Classic 575 for $319.
Note: For the Classic 575 the 60 second cycle is equivalent to Whole Juice and the 90 seconds is the same as the Soup cycle on other models.
The Blendtec Classic Fit on the other hand, has very few features and is a model I DO NOT recommend. They wanted to provide a less expensive option for consumers who are highly budget conscious. For the price it’s much better to get the Total Blender Classic.
To get to the nitty gritty of what each model has to offer, see my comprehensive comparison reviews of each series Blendtec Designer Review and Blendtec Classic Review or my Blendtec Pro 800 review.

(II) Noise Comparison
The only other major con besides price regarding Blendtec and Vitamix blenders is the noise they make. After evaluation testing the decibels of each blender, we found that Blendtec is slightly louder than Vitamix at its highest speed and when blending ice and frozen fruit for smoothies or ice cream. Note that the newer Blendtec Designer Series and the Vitamix Ascent Series are the quietest options compared to their other models that don’t have a sound enclosure. Other than that they are both equally noisy machines with only 1-2 decibel differences.
Every Blendtec and Vitamix blender (except the Blendtec Pro 800 or Stealth and the Vitamix Quiet One, which have sound enclosures) is much louder when compared to a common low-wattage kitchen blender, however they are almost 5 times more powerful than most. It’s important to remember that most items are blended in approximately 1-2 min. so they are not causing a racket for too long!
If a quiet blender is important to you, you will want to seriously consider the Blendtec Pro 800 which is what I have on my counter since I blend while a baby is napping, early in the morning and late at night. With its sound enclosure it really is very quiet.
(III) Design Comparison
When we look at design we look at the base housing, size and containers and how they fit in your kitchen.
The “Classic” models from both Blendtec and Vitamix are the “older” body style however don’t be fooled – these are still workhorses and tried and true to work just as well (sometimes even better or with more features) than their successors.
Vitamix improved on the original classic C-Series design with a bigger face and dial and adding a pulse feature. They further improved with their more high-tech Ascent Series.
Blendtec was the first to market with their all touchscreen Designer Series blenders and is the only one with a household version that has a sound enclosure (Pro 800) or can be built into the counter (Pro 750)
A. Power Comparison
Both Blendtec and Vitamix are much more powerful than a typical 350 watt kitchen blender.
Vitamix blender models are less powerful with a 2 or 2.2 peak horsepower motor compared to Blendtec’s 3 peak horsepower motor. Blendtec even has two models with a 3.8 peak horsepower motor.
However in our testing, whether they had 2.2 HP or 3 HP, all the blenders had enough power and torque to easily blend any food product. The only difference we found was how fast a recipe was pulverized or made hot (example: soup).
The truth is, you will not find virtually any foods the Blendtec can blend which the Vitamix cannot.
Nevertheless the popular Will It Blend? youtube videos that demonstrate a Blendtec Total Blender pulverizing an iPhone, ipad, golf balls, marbles, etc. prove the Blendtec is a more powerful machine.
B. Speed Capacity Comparison
All Vitamix models have 10 speeds and has a greater RPM range from 500 to 37,000 enabling more control at slower speeds, which is most helpful for chopping (see chopping in our performance tests) as well as emulsifying.
Blendtec models have up to 10 speeds with a minimum of 4,080 revolutions per minute (RPM) and a maximum of 28,000 RPM’s. Several of their models have less than 10 speeds, however most types of blends use the highest speed so you won’t usually notice.
That said, since various speeds will enable you to achieve different textures with a variety of ingredients, Vitamix does provide more control over your blend no matter which model you have.
C. Size Comparison
The Blendtec Classic Series are 6 pounds while the Blendtec Designer Series is 8-10 pounds. All of them are a low 15 inches tall.
Blendtec’s compact size will fit underneath most kitchen cabinets, and its lighter weight makes it easier to move around and travel with (i.e. road trips, vacations, to gatherings, etc.)
Even the Blendtec Classic Series which has a sound enclosure is 17.25 inches tall which will still fit under most kitchen cabinets.
As for Vitamix Blenders, the standard Vitamix Classic C-Series models are approximately 13 pounds and 21.5 inches tall – making them harder to fit under a cabinet.
Vitamix’s newer models such as the Vitamix Ascent Series and Vitamix Next Generation have a more desirable 64 oz compact jar making them 17 inches tall, to compete with this particularly desirable attribute of their biggest competitor.
For a heavy job with lots of frozen ingredients (such as making ice cream) sometimes the light Blendtec Classic models will move around or shift on your countertop, usually if it’s tilted and not a smooth surface.
This can be somewhat alarming to new users, but it’s nothing to be too concerned about. With its heavier weight, Vitamix will not move on your counter.
D. Controls and User Friendliness Comparison
When you compare Vitamix and Blendtec controls you see the main difference between these two blender brands. While they are both simple to operate, their functionality is different. Most Vitamix blenders have switches and a variable speed dial – only very recently introducing touchscreen models – while Blendtec is the pioneer for flat, easy to clean automatic buttons and touchscreens.
1. Vitamix
1.1 Speed Control
Every single Vitamix blender will have a variable 10-speed control dial (except their two-speed models which we don’t recommend).
The older C-Series models, including the Vitamix 5200 or reconditioned Vitamix Standard (most of the others have been retired), have a variable 10 speed dial with a Hi/Lo switch and no separate pulse button (however you can still “pulse” by turning the machine on and off to equal 1 pulse).
Newer variable speed dial only models (pictured above which include the Vitamix S30, Vitamix Pro 300, Vitamix 7500 and the Ascent Series A2300 and A3300) include a pulse setting.
1.2 Pre-Programmed Settings + Variable Speed Control
Vitamix models which include pre-programmed settings (which we LOVE) and a pulse setting are typically more expensive (but totally worth it).
The combination of Pre-Programmed Settings plus Variable Speed Control offers the ultimate in versatility. They are easier to use, saving you time in addition to giving you total creative control of the blend.
Depending on which model will determine how many pre-programmed settings you have and what they are.
For a more detailed look at what controls would work best for you, see our “Which Vitamix to Buy Review“.
2. Blendtec
Blendtec is known for their patented Smart-Touch Tec-nology™ enabling you to press a button and walk away. The automatic program cycle with fluctuating various speeds will stop when the program time is completed.
The microprocessor technology features a digital display that shows you blending times and cycles. There is also a pulse button which is great for mixing in additional ingredients without pulverizing. We find it keeps certain recipes “chunkier” than with our Vitamix, such as in our skinny guacamole recipe.
In addition to the program cycles, there are also manual speeds, which also automatically shut off after 50 seconds of continuous blending.
Which model you get will determine how many automatic settings and manual speeds you have. Blendtec has two types of control pads, push-button and touchscreen.
2.1 Blendtec Touchscreen Control
The Blendtec models with the most features in terms of the number of pre-programmed settings (6), manual speeds (10 to 100) and even additional high-end features include:
- The refurbished Blendtec Total Blender Classic
- The Blendtec Designer 725 and the Blendtec Designer 700 (both have 100 manual speeds and additional features such as Add 10 + bonus rewards.
- The Blendtec Pro 800.
- The Blendtec Pro 750.
Every model other than these has fewer numbers of pre-programmed settings and manual speeds – with the least amount of features/options of all being the Blendtec 570 (only available at Costco).
2.2. Blendtec Push Button Control
The automatic programmed cycles are our favorite thing about Blendtec blenders! The program cycles are perfect for most applications, however, on occasion we need to continue blending after the program completes to finish the job.
For all models that don’t have the “Add 10” time feature, we just use our manual speeds or hold down the pulse setting as needed, or we’ll use a programmed cycle a second time. No big deal.
One thing we especially appreciate (and has come in handy for extra-tough recipes) is Blendtec’s built-in computer detects Overheat, Overload, and Jammed blade situations, preventing damage. The Vitamix does have overheat protection but not the other protections the Blendtec has.
A Vitamix will continue to run until you manually power off or until the thermal protection kicks in to prevent overheating.
(IV) Containers/Jars Comparison
The biggest difference comparing Blendtec and Vitamix containers is compatibility with each model. With Blendtec every type of container fits and work on all of their models. With Vitamix certain models only work with certain containers, so if you upgrade you may also need to buy new additional containers.
The second biggest difference is all Blendtec jars are dishwasher safe while many, but not all, Vitamix jars are dishwasher safe (on the top rack is best).
All current Blendtec and Vitamix containers are BPA-Free copolyester plastic. These containers are lightweight and are EXTREMELY TOUGH to break in case you drop it (our favorite Will It Blend videos come to mind here!).
For the most part, both do not absorb the odors of the ingredients that are put in, however, it is important to clean the jars right away to eliminate any unwanted smells. That said, spices and their strong odors have been known to leave a scent and/or discolor jars a bit. We recommend using a smaller/additional jar for spices.
1. Jars/ Containers
1.1. Blendtec Containers + Special Offer
Blendtec containers
BLENDTEC COMPLETE SETUP
The “Blendtec Complete Setup” is any Blendtec blender with a Wildside Jar + a Twister Jar. If you have these two jars you don’t need anything else to blend everything your heart desires! Which is why Blender Babes negotiated an exclusive deal just for you!
Get 50% off a Blendtec Twister Jar with Promo Code BBTwister (includes free shipping)
Blendtec models usually come standard with the large 90 oz “Wildside+” container that is widely believed to be “the best” with its larger capacity and superior blending performance. (Note: Blendtec won a 24 MM lawsuit against Vitamix for patent infringement for this particular jar – it works that well!).
Please Note: I do NOT recommend getting the Fourside Jar over the Wildside+ Jar. I know it’s cheaper but it just doesn’t blend as well. Things get stuck and you will have to stop the machine and shake the jar or move ingredients around with a spatula. GO WITH THE WILDSIDE+ JAR OPTION.
The only other jar you really should get is the “Twister jar” which was designed especially for nut butters, frozen treats and other thick/smaller blends. It’s a game-changer and honestly the Wildside+ jar alone can’t do these types of blends very well without a tamper.
FAQ: My family consists of 3 people and I would probably be making smoothies in a small amount, sometimes just single servings. Would the Wildside+ jar be too big for my needs?
Answer: You can definitely blend a single smoothie in a Wildside+ Jar. It’s super small amounts of things like dressings, sauces, etc. I would stick with the Wildside+ Jar and then put the Twister Jar on your wishlist if you can’t get right away. 🙂
1.1.1. Types of Blendtec Jars to Consider
If you grow to LOVE your Blendtec and want to easily make all-the-things, you may consider adding one of these additional jars to your wish list.
Blendtec container options include:
- ”3 qt” 90 oz Wildside+ Jar – Largest capacity with a bigger 4-inch blade. This is the must-have jar and should definitely be the one purchased over the Fourside Jar option.
- ”2 qt” 64 oz Fourside Jar – The original container before they invented (the better) Wildside + jar. This is a good additional jar to have if you plan do a lot of grinding which will pit/cloud the jar or if you blend something that stains.
- 46 oz. Mini Wildside Jar – Performs as well as the regular Wildside Jar but only good for single servings. We like the new latching lid to prevent any accidents. However for single serve to-go we recommend the Blendtec GO Jar instead.
- Twister Jar (Standard) – This container was made specifically for thick dishes/purees such as nut butter, hummus, baby food and for small amounts. This is the MUST HAVE additional jar for the ultimate Blendtec set up to be able to blend everything.
- Blendtec GO Jar – Allows for single serve blending with a to-go jar and cup. Perfect for busy mornings and multiple family members making different types of smoothies. You can get one GO jar with blade or two jars.
- The Wildside+ Rebel/XR Jar – This jar was made to fit on Classic and Next Generation Vitamix models. Part of the lawsuit they won. Don’t worry about this jar unless you have an older Vitamix.
1.2. Vitamix Containers
Most Vitamix models come with a 64 oz capacity container. The compact Vitamix Next Generation and Ascent Series container is short enough for their blender to fit under the average kitchen counter – which was one of the largest complaints that our Vitamix owners have (the 64 oz standard being too tall so people put away and therefore don’t use it as much).
The only other jar you really need from the Vitamix brand in order to blend smaller portions or single servings, especially if you get the 64 oz compact jar is the much smaller Vitamix 32 oz jar, or recently introduced Vitamix 48 oz container.
A Vitamix wet jar can perform hot, cold, and wet, however for blending dry goods, they have a special Dry Grains Container.
FAQ: I would like to know if the dry container is needed?
Answer: I personally rarely use the dry jar – only when I’m testing. If you do occasional grinding, you can do so in the wet jar. That said, if you plan to do A LOT of grinding (gluten-free household, make your own flour for dough, etc.) that is the only time I would recommend getting the (expensive) dry jar.
Note: We have found Vitamix Containers for less on Amazon.
1.2.1. Types of Vitamix Jars
Vitamix container options include:
- Vitamix 64 oz Container – a standard container used by most – totals 20.5″ tall
- Vitamix 64 oz Low Profile Compact Container – compact 64oz container with a 4-inch base that totals 17.4″ tall on base. Fits under most kitchen cabinets. Should only be used with all Vitamix G-Series models and Vitamix C-Series models with 2.2 horsepower motor* (Vitamix 5300 and 6500)
- Vitamix 64 oz Low Profile Ascent Series Container – this is also a shorter 64 oz container that makes the unit 17″ tall on the base and fits under most kitchen cabinets. Due to the “Smart Detect” technology used in the Ascent Series, you cannot use any container on an Ascent base other than those made for the Ascent Series. This container also has an improved spout and transparent lid which locks in place.
- Vitamix 48 oz Compact Container – smaller capacity compact container -totals 17.5” tall
- Vitamix 32 oz Container – smallest wet jar
- Vitamix 32 oz Dry Grains Container – made especially for grinding
- Vitamix 20 oz Travel Container – blend-and-go style cup. Use removable blade to flip over and blend then add the flip cup lid and take on the go – fits all S-Series models only for blending – but can be purchased separately as a to-go cup for any use.
- Vitamix 40 oz Container – removable blade and gasket for cleaning – fits all S-Series models only (only the blade can be purchased separately).
2. Container Capacity/ Volume
Both blenders offer a variety of containers to match your needs. However, while both blenders’ have similarly sized containers the Vitamix containers are UL rated to blend at capacity.
Due to its serious power and jar designs, Blendtec jars are not recommended to operate when at capacity (ie. filled to the brim!). For Blendtec to operate best you should fill it no more than 2/3rds full.
In contrast, Vita-Mix jars can be filled to the top since 1) they are not as powerful and 2) the lid on the Vitamix containers offer a little extra room.
Blendtec’s larger “3 qt/90 oz” wildside jar and Vitamx’s 64 oz low profile jar both have a longer 4-inch blade, and we find these jars not only emulsify ingredients faster than their predecessors but are ideal for larger capacities.
They also more easily make bread dough and other baked goods.
3. Container Volume Markings
Of course, each jar is marked with easy measuring volume units in oz & cups. (I’ve been known to use my jar as a giant measurement cup!)
All of the Blendtec jars have their capacity measurements marked in black and EASY TO SEE. In addition to oz & cups, the newest jars have ml and cl.
Vitamix jars have clear markings (which I really hate) that are harder to see and only in oz & cups.
4. Container Blade
Vitamix has a standard 4 prong blade while Blendtec has a patented single blade design.
I’ve read other reviews that say both Blendtec and Vitamix have thick, BLUNT blades and this is simply NOT TRUE.
Vitamix does NOT have a thick or blunt blade (I have cut my finger on the tip while cleaning it by hand). That said, it is definitely NOT razor sharp like a Ninja blender blades or food processor. What matter is it IS thick and sharp enough to chop through tough food ingredients like berry seeds and sticky dates, better and quicker than Blendtec can in my testing.
The patented Blendtec single blade design IS blunt and thick, which is why it can pulverize anything you throw at it, including golf balls and lighters, without breaking. It’s is 80% thicker and 10 times stronger than a standard $50-$100 kitchen blender.
In any Blendtec jar, its single blade will do it all: hot, cold, wet, and dry grinding. With Vitamix they encourage you to use their special dry grains container for grinding as its blade is designed and meant only for this purpose. See my Vitamix containers review for more detail about whether you need the Vitamix dry container or not.
For both blenders, you cannot remove the blade as the blade & container is essentially one piece (not including the Vitamix S-Series).
5. Lid Characteristics
5.1. Blendtec Lids
Both the Blendtec and Vitamix have “gripper lids” and they each have a removable chute where you can add ingredients while processing is going on.
This way, there is no need to stop the blender to add more ingredients. We find that the Vitamix lid is more secure than Blendtec’s, as the lid snaps onto the jar due to special “lips”.
Their lid also adds extra room, while Blendtec’s lid suctions on flat. For this reason, Blendtec recommends not filling their jar to the very top and we must say, this is accurate.
On more than one occasion using a Blendtec, we have filled the jar to its brim and “pressed a button and walked away”. As the highly fibrous contents were pulverized on high speeds, and the level of fluid increased, the lid was pushed off sending the contents of our green juice and almond milk (once we attempted a double batch!) ALL OVER THE KITCHEN.
With Blendtec blenders, large items sometimes need to be halved or quartered, or additional liquid is needed to blend completely without stopping the blender and pushing ingredients into the blades.
5.2. Vitamix Tamper and Vitamix Lids
Every Vitamix blender comes with a perfectly sized patented tamper, to assist in blending solid and whole (uncut) foods without stopping the blender.
The Vitamix Tamper fits through the top opening of the container lid to push solid particles back down into the blender blades, for a faster, smoother and more uniform blending.
The Vitamix tamper is not always necessary but is extremely helpful with super green smoothies, and making frozen treats and thicker dishes such as nut butter.
(V) Performance Comparison
In this Blendtec vs. Vitamix comparison, we have tested each of these machines (including all of their models) making all-the-things that each company says they can do. In addition to making amazing smoothies and margaritas (the essentials!) they can also be used to make hot soups, nut butter, grind seeds and grains into flour, make bread dough, puree fruit and do a whole lot more.
I love doing these types of “blend-offs” because it truly showcases the strengths and weaknesses these blenders have.
Please Note: While I love other blend-off tests and videos, what I have found from other reviewers is that they only test one model. Also certain types of blends require different accessories – such as a smaller container (for Vitamix) or twister jar (for Blendtec). So I will do my best to share the results I have found after constant testing with all the newest models and any recommendations I have below.
1. Which Is The Best Blender For Smoothies?
“Which blender is the best smoothie maker?” is one of the most popular questions I receive. But in the Blendtec vs. Vitamix debate, there is no need to be concerned about whether or not either blender can result in a silky smooth smoothie.
There is no question that both blenders do an excellent job at turning out delicious fruit and vegetable smoothies. The fact that 90% of smoothie shops use one or the other of these two commercial-grade machines, should be reason enough to convince you of their power and longevity.
I honestly can’t say either one is the best smoothie maker. This is because they’re BOTH phenomenal smoothie makers!!
1.1. The Blendtec Blender as a Smoothie Maker
With our extensive recipe testing, Blender Babes has used our Blendtec blenders literally thousands of times. We can say this with confidence by its digital counter and because many of our customers themselves have experienced long life cycles of their Blendtec – so we’re not alone!
However, we have found that when using the fourside jar instead of the Wildside+ Jar (which is sometimes sold that way making the price cheaper) the vortex created isn’t as strong and ingredients can get stuck. Since there’s not tamper to push the ingredient down you would have to stop the machine and do it manually and possibly add more liquid to get it going.
Another thing we found is that when making super packed green smoothies, the Whole Juice program cycle will not always complete the blending to its smoothest point, upon the timed 50-second cycle. For example, sometimes with carrots and certain green smoothies packed with tons of fibrous vegetables, it may be necessary to do additional blending after running the Whole Juice cycle.
That being said, since every Blendtec offers manual buttons for added control over your blending desires, usually, only a few more seconds at a high speed finishes the job. For common blends and fruit smoothies, we find automatic program cycles to be a serious blessing and time-saver by not having to stand next to and/or assist the blender.
1.2. The Vitamix Blender as a Smoothie Maker
Compared to the Blendtec, The Vitamix makes super smooth fruit, vegetable, and green smoothies, even when we pack the container to the brim.
There is a reason the Vitamix comes with its patented tamper. And with certain to-capacity or highly fibrous green smoothies, we need to push those ingredients down and into the blade.
Since you are controlling the machine you have the ability to shut off the power (except with the automated controls in the new Vitamix 6300 or 750 models!!) when you see a consistency that’s to your liking.
2. Is Blendtec or Vitamix a Juicer?
One of the most common questions asked by those looking for a traditional juicer is “Can Blendtec or Vitamix make juice?”
Well, we have your answer. While both the Blendtec and Vitamix blenders are not traditional juice extractors, it is important to note that they can make juice and that too, very well! But instead of the normal juice, what they really make is “whole food juice”.
The important difference is that traditional juicers extract the liquid from whole foods, separating out the pulp (fiber), seeds, and skin. But both Vitamix and Blendtec blenders do not remove anything from the whole food, so you get ALL the nutrition that is found in the skin and seeds, as well as the natural fiber (pulp) which is liquefied – thus a wholefood juice.
Another important difference between a traditional juice extractor and a Blendtec or Vitamix juicer is that a traditional juicer requires 4-10 times more produce to extract a small amount of juice. The resulting juice has a higher concentration of vitamins and minerals than what a Blendtech or Vitamix would yield.
However, it can also have a much higher concentration of sugar, especially in fruit juices or vegetable juices such as carrots. A Blendtec or Vitamix juice, on the other hand, will use 100% of the produce (making your juicing costs much lower) and give you more whole food nutrition.
Some illnesses and digestive diseases actually require such a high concentration of vitamins and minerals without the fiber or anything else that the body has to digest. But if you want fresh-squeezed fruit juices such as apple or orange juice, you might prefer the juice from a quality extract juicer.
3. Are These Blenders Considered a Mixer?
Another unique application of these blenders is using them as a mixer. You can quickly create batters, quick bread, and yeast bread with either blender.
The Blendtec has a specific Batters/Sauces/Dips button on many of its models, and both easily blend up the pancake and waffle batters. If you have a simple cake, cornbread, or brownie mix, such as our Healthy Brownies recipe, you can just blend it all together in the 64 oz container from either brand then easily pour it directly into your baking dish!
With both Vitamix and Blendtec most cakes, cookies, and bread instructions call for you to blend the wet ingredients and then pour them into a bowl containing the dry ingredients, mixing it by hand from there.
Blendtec says you can blend the wet ingredients in the larger Wildside Jar and then PULSE in the dry ingredients. We’ve done this before which some success… however it can very easily become dense, and we find it safer to just add the wet to a bowl with dry and hand mix, like with our Vitamix.
When it comes to yeast bread and dough in the Blendtec and Vitamix, both require a little finesse and know-how of baking bread – as there are a lot of other factors to making good fresh bread than just mixing it. See our Vitamix pizza dough how-to here!
4. Chopping Abilities
Chopping may sound like an impossible feat for blenders, but both these brands claim to be food processors or choppers.
While neither blender is designed to be as good as a chopper or can handle as large a quantity as a separate food processor, both have the ability to chop smaller quantities of food.
However, the low variable speed control of the Vitamix allows for cleaner, more precise chopping results than the Pulse feature of the Blendtec. Whereas the Blendtec has a blunt blade, so although it doesn’t allow for aesthetic chopping, it can get a simple job done.
Blender Babes have used the Blendtec Pulse feature and Vitamix chopping instructions quite a bit for certain recipes such as skinny guacamole, or to add chunks to our soup. While both work very well, if you need to chop large quantities of food, we still recommend a true food processor.
5. Grinding Compared
Some other common questions we get are “Does this blender really make flour?” and “Is it necessary to get a Vitamix Dry Container?” Well, we’re happy to say that both blenders definitely make flour and are considered to be “grain mills”.
The advantage Blendtec has over Vitamix is that both their Fourside and Wildside jar also dry blend (meaning you do not have to buy any additional jars specifically for this purpose). The Vitamix, on the other hand, has a special dry goods jar that they sell separately (or sometimes in a combo package), which adds to the price of an already expensive blender.
Many of our members tell us that they use their standard wet jar to blend dry goods (such as flax seeds and wheat berries). We have tested this and yes, the wet jar can grind grains. That said, if used repeatedly for dry grinding, the sharp blade will become dull, and eventually, wet blending performance will be compromised.
The Vitamix dry container is especially designed for grinding flour because the blade is shaped differently and specifically for creating an opposite vortex. This pushes the dry goods against the jar, circulates differently, and provides a slightly finer grind than the wet jar as well.
The Bottom Line:
If you plan to do a lot of grinding (i.e you do a lot of baking and/or have a gluten-free lifestyle – and would like to make your own inexpensive flour, consistently), then you should probably purchase the dry goods jar if you have a Vitamix.
But if you occasionally want to grind some flax seeds and make your own flax meal, then you may not want to spend the extra money now to get the Vitamix dry container. In that case, you can use your wet jar with the understanding that the whole jar or just the blade may need replacing sooner than normal.
Also, it is important to note: When grinding hard grains for both blenders, it will pit the BPA free jar interior, resulting in a “fogged” appearance. With our Blendtec, Blender Babes uses one Fourside jar specifically for dry goods, and one for all else – since cosmetic alterations are not covered under warranty.
6. Can Vitamix or Blendtec Make Soup?
This is a question I get asked a lot. The answer is “YES!”.
When these two top blenders battle it out to make hot soup, they each can do so in mere minutes due to the friction the blades cause when spinning. Literally, steam will be coming out the top when you take the lid off!
Since both blender containers have vented lids that are designed for pressure release, it is safe to blend hot liquids, unlike Ninja blenders for example.
Due to the Blendtec being a more powerful machine, when starting with cold water or broth, it takes slightly less time by pressing the Soup button (or 90 second button) 3 times, taking a total of 4.5 minutes to get super hot. The Vitamix, on the other hand, takes takes 6-7 minutes on manual control on the highest variable speed or by using their automated 6 minute soup setting on Vitamix models with programmed settings.
It is of course much healthier to make a fresh soup at home than to use a canned soup – which has a shelf life of 3 years thanks to hefty preservatives and is often extremely high in sodium. We have many Blendtec and Vitamix soup recipes and are constantly adding new ones because it’s one of the healthiest types of recipes you can blend!
7. Ice Cream
Who would have EVER thought they would see ice cream made in 45 seconds?!?! Well, it takes that short of time if you use the Blendtec Ice Cream or the Vitamix Frozen Treat button!
Aside from yeast bread, ice cream is probably the trickiest thing to make. But once you have made it a few times, especially using either one of these blenders it’s a piece of cake- er, ICE CREAM!
We find that with ice cream, the Blendtec needs to have fairly exact measurements of liquids to frozen ingredients (which our recipes provide) or the ice causes cavitation around the blade, so you must stop the machine, shake it out or use a spatula, and use your manual keys to re-blend.
With the Vitamix, you don’t have this problem because the handy tamper will push the frozen ingredients into the blade. So, even if you have a little more ice than needed you just keep blending until the four mounds and star shape forms at the top.
The Vitamix usually takes a few seconds longer, but they both equally make fabulous fresh and healthier ice cream. The ice cream from both of these blenders is more of a soft-serve – not like traditional hard ice cream. You can, however, add it to an ice cream maker to get that traditional texture.

(VI) Vitamix vs Blendtec – Cleaning
We have to say that hands down, one of the best features about both of these blenders is their SUPER EASY CLEANUP!!
Most regular kitchen blenders have a separate blade, gasket, and jar – and therefore must be taken apart to clean and sanitize after each blend.
With all of the current models of the Vitamix and Blendtec, you don’t have to remove the blade from the jar, which results in faster and easier cleanup and prevents leaky or broken seals as well.
When it comes to cleaning, both the Blendtec and Vitamix are considered SELF CLEANING (Yup, that’s what we said!) To clean up after most blended concoctions, all you have to do is add some hot water with a little bit of dish soap and blend for several seconds, and then rinse.
This will remove any gunk around the blade. That said, stickier jobs such as nut butter and bread doughs usually require additional scrubbing after first self-cleaning.
In these cases, we do find the Blendtec slightly easier to clean. This is because there’s no risk of cutting oneself on its blunt 2 prong blade. Also, its square design is easier for both small and larger hands to reach in and clean with a sponge.
Most of the Vitamix jars (except their newest 64oz compact jar), on the other hand, are more narrow and all their models have a somewhat sharp 4 prong blade. This requires more care when handling or doing any additional cleaning.
Another point to consider is that Blendtec states that it’s safe to put their jar in the dishwasher (we do it and we LOVE THIS!) Note, it is recommended that you do not put older Blendtec containers that are not BPA-Free in the dishwasher.
For Vitamix, some of their jars are not dishwasher safe and some are. Dishwasher safe containers include all Self-Detect Smart System containers, Explorian Series containers and Personal blender S-Series containers – the rest are not.
For both, not having to disassemble and reassemble the jar & blade is definitely an easy time-saver that adds to the cleaning points.
Pro Tip: Always make sure to clean right after blending for the best results. Follow this and you’ll surely thank us later!.

(VII) Warranty and Durability Comparison
In our experience and from numerous member reviews, both blender companies have exceptional customer service and make it easy to fix or replace under warranty without a headache. You can feel safe in your purchase with either blender.
One of the greatest advantages of owning either one of these commercial blenders is their superior product warranty over the typical 1 or 2 years “regular” blender warranties (you know, the kind that almost always burns out right after the warranty ends).
The quality construction for both of these blenders means you will use these blenders for years without any problems. The average life expectancy for each is 15 to 20 years.
1. Vitamix’s Warranty Offer
For added peace of mind, Vitamix comes with a complete 7-Year Full Use warranty on new Classic Series models, 10 years on the Smart System Series, and 5 years for the Space Saving Series and certified reconditioned Vitamix blenders. They also offer an added 3-year warranty at checkout.
And if that’s not enough, Vitamix also offers a 30-day no-risk money-back guarantee for a full refund, no questions asked. What’s more, they will also pay for return shipping (I don’t know any other brand that does this).
2. Blendtec’s Warranty Offer
Blendtec’s warranty is an industry-leading 8-year warranty on new blenders and 3-years for certified reconditioned Blendtec blenders)
Blendtec offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for a full refund, no questions asked. However, if you return or send in under warranty, you must pay for your own return shipping.
3. Where is Blendtec and Vitamix Manufactured?
Both Blendtec and Vitamix blenders are Manufactured in the USA. However, both companies do use some foreign-made components within their blenders.
This is why both brands are required by law to say it is ‘designed and assembled in the USA’ due to a law prohibiting companies from making the ‘Made in the USA’ claim if any part of their blender comes from a foreign country.

Here are some other frequently asked questions I get about these blenders that are worth mentioning.
Q: I’m really thinking that the automatic program options. What is your opinion on them?
A: I LOVE pre-programmed settings because I can choose the setting and step away from the machine and it will stop automatically. This is great for when I am making a smoothie or soup and I’m cleaning up my kitchen and don’t feel like I have to stand next and/or watch the blender or time it. Of course you can do the same things the program settings can do with manual speeds so it’s a nice-to-have.
Q: Does Jamba Juice use Blendtec or Vitamix?
A: The smoothie giant has used both blender brands. Previously they had used Vitamix blenders but after Blendtec won a lawsuit regarding their jar patent, many Jamba Juice franchisees switched over to Blendtec blenders since they had the Wildside+ jar which is proven to make smoothies in a shorter amount of time. With the sound enclosure they had quiet blending much needed when several are going at once. Smoothie shop owners also no longer had to deal with the plastic coupling breaking on the Vitamix with such heavy commercial use which saved them time and money. (Source: Tom Dickson – Founder and Inventor at Blendtec)
Q: How Much is Blendtec or Vitamix at Costco?
A: You can only get certain models of both Blendtec and Vitamix at Costco during roadshows for a special price, however Costco now carries one model of Vitamix year round which you can check the price by calling your local Costco or checking online.
Thank you for a very thorough review. If I decide to buy I will go through you.
Hi
Which brand and model do you use the most when making your own smoothies? i know they are all good, but would love to know.
Hi Sebastian!I personally have the Vitamix 750 and the Blendtec Pro 800 on my counter. I know, it’s a lot but I’m a Blender Babe! 😉 Those are two of my favorite blenders and I’ve tested them all!
Hello. I am planning to buy a new blender after burning my old cheap one out. We love smoothies at our house, but the idea of making frozen treats and nut butters at home is very appealing as well. I have super sensitive hearing. Blendtec Pro 800 is looking like our best option. Because the twister jar cannot be used with the sound enclosure closed, I do not want a twister jar. Will we be able to make a variety of nut butters, hummus and frozen desserts without it? The Blendtec website has only one nut butter recipe with instructions for the wildside jar. The Blendtec website also indicates that the twister jar is necessary even for thick shakes. Is that accurate? Or can we make all of the same things if we are willing to stop the machine, open it up and scrape the sides from time to time? Vitamix’s Quiet One would be a tempting alternative if the price were comparable, but I cannot see myself paying $200 more for a lesser warranty.
Hey Deb, I apologize for the delay I missed this question amidst all the craziness happening right now. Correct you can’t use the twister jar with the Blendtec Pro 800 sound enclosure on. You can do the frozen treats and nut butters but you would have to stop the machine and scrape it down. For both of these if you had just a bit of liquid (frozen treats) or a tiny bit of oil (nut butters) it will help the blender process much better. It should only take a few minutes to make these things that way. It’s what I used to do before the Twister Jar came out so it’s absolutely doable! Hope that helps and it’s not too late! Warmly ~ Tarashaun
Hi. I live in country with 220v. I bought my original Vitamix in Canada, and have been using it with a generator. Recently my jar cracked. No u can’t blend anything. Daughter accidentally dropped a metal spoon in her smoothie. I also have stated a small business from home and need the most efficient machine that will work very hard everyday! Particularly for dips and butters and batters.
After reading your article – I may go for a Blendtec this time. But…. could I buy on amazon UK – or through your site from the UK?
Hi Candy,
You can definitely buy from Amazon UK but it won’t be through my website. Which Blendtec model are you looking at? If you have a small business with customers you might want to look at the Blendtec Pro 800 quiet blender. Hope that helps! ~Tarashaun
Awesome comparisons! Very helpful. I’m wondering if the vitamin 750 is quieter than the blendtec 800? The sales guy claimed the vitamin 750 is even better.
Hi Joan! Due to it’s high speed and performance level, Blendtec may be a little louder but it’s definitely worth it!
Happy Blending <3. -BlenderBabe Ty
This page is so helpful, yet, after reading, I’m baffled. It appears that the blendtec is stronger, smaller, lighter, holds more capacity, doesn’t require special jars or blades for wet vs. dry blending, and has a longer warranty on many models. Why did you end up choosing the Vitamix? And why does Vitamix get the top ratings on so many sites? I’m just trying to choose.
Also, are the touch screens and newer tech features really a plus? I worry that more tech, means more things that could break? Any thoughts?
Thanks!!!
Hi Ashley! Yes those are some great benefits of Blendtec vs Vitamix, you nailed it. 🙂 Vitamix gets top ratings because their blenders are very dependable and perform very well in all type of recipes. I didn’t choose Vitamix over Blendtec, however I chose both! But that’s because I’m a Blender Babe and want to try them all! haha! Really though I do love the touchscreen models – it’s like when I fell in love with my smartphone and breaking up with my blackberry. I understand your concern but I haven’t had any issues with my touchscreen Blendtec models (I use the Pro 800 the most). They have good warranties on new models and 3 years on refurbished Blendtec. Hope that helps in your search! ~Tarashaun
Under “3 Mistakes to Avoid Before Buying Blendtec or Vitamix”, when you click on the article, it does not come up. Frustrating. I would have liked to find out what you had to say. Otherwise, information was very good and informative.
Thank you so much for pointing that out Susan! I have fixed it so when you click on the Blendtec or Vitamix image you can opt-in to get my 3 mistakes info. Warm Hugs ~ Tarashaun
what about the shape of the blender containrs? i have a vitamix, which uses contoured shaped containers. i hate cleaning them? i see the blendtec containers have flat sides. i imagine these are easier to clean. what do you think?
Hi, Dawn!
Yes, the Blendtec blender would be easier to clean as there are no grooves in the container. However, you can clean both with soap and water and blend it for a few minutes. I find that easier to clean my containers.
Great information – thanks. I currently own the Vitamix 5200, have had it for around 20 years (used to sell them when I owned a vitamin store) – not sure how many more years it has left, so found your site while searching current prices. I was wondering if the 5200 containers would fit on the 5300 base – doesn’t look like it. Do you know? If not, when or if this one dies, might go to Blendtec (would have to think about the pros and cons, though). I have a super smoothie every day for breakfast so would have to have one of them! Take care.
Hey Tony! Love hearing your Vitamix is still going strong! All of the 5200 containers can FIT the 5300 base, however it is not recommended to use the tall 64 oz container on the 5300 base (or any Vitamix blender with a 2.2 peak Horsepower motor) due to the increased motor size. You can see my Vitamix containers review here that has a video explaining this. Feel free to check out my blender workshop to help you decide between vitamix vs blendtec. 🙂
Hey babe,
Want the stealth blendtec but says sold out….too bad
Ugh! That sucks! Should be back in stock soon. It’s worth the wait! Be sure to use our Blendtec promo code BBGIFT for free shipping. The links don’t automatically apply it anymore with their new website. :-/ Warmly ~Tarashaun
I really like how you broke things down in your comparisons. Every person I know seems happy with one or the other, however, few of my friends have tried both.
I decided on Blendtec with a Wilside and Twister Jar package. I decided not to get refurbished.
This post was very helpful in making my decision.
Awesome Jamie! Thank you so much for sharing! So glad to have helped you with your decision. 🙂 Enjoy your new Blendtec! ~Tarashaun
Why do you say in this article that Vitamix will sharpen your blade, the blade is dull. Dull by design.
Hi, Will!
You are right that the Vitamix blade is not super sharp like a Ninja but also not blunt/dull like a Blendtec. You absolutely can cut yourself on the blade and you should be careful when cleaning. Hope that helps clarify. 🙂
Thank you for the reviews…they were pretty helpful coz I couldn’t make up my mind until I read them.
I have decided to go for Blendtec though I still have to decide on the model.
Do you ship to Switzerland?
Thanks,
Nisha
Hi, Nisha! I’m so happy you were able to pick a Blender Brand! Great job! Unfortunately, Blendtec does not ship internationally, only USA and CANADA, and therefore doesn’t qualify for free shipping or free gifts.
You can contact their international department to find a dealer in your country. Blendtec: http://www.blendtec.com/international-dealers
Let me know if I can help with anything else.
Happy Blending!
Great review of the various blenders.
I really like what I’ve read about both blenders, but the price of the Blendtec blenders is leading me down that road. My concern about Blendtec is that I’ve read many, many stories of the jars leaking. Have you heard whether the leaking issue has been fixed?
Thanks,
Jay
Hey Jay!
Thank you for reaching out to Blender Babes! I understand your concern. In the past their jars had some rubber gasket shredding after lots of use, however they have since updated their jar design so if there is any malfunction it does not shred into your food – which is what’s most important. Due to the power of these machines, heavy use may still prove to wear down the rubber gasket on the outside of the jar which would just leave a little residue on the base.
I’ve had mine for several years, daily use, with no problems – however it does happen!
If it does happen within the 3 years, send it in under warranty. If outside the warranty you may want to get a new jar after awhile.
Hope that helps answer your question! 🙂 ~ Tarashaun
hi. i saw your video in youtube about blendtec vs vitamix vs ninja
i would like to buy the blendtec 575.
i want to know if it is free shipping to ontario canada.
and if the price is in cnd $ or us$?
and if buying to be sent to canada the free gift is also available?
could you please let me know
thank you
jully
Hi Jully! Thank you for checking out my video 🙂 Yes you get free shipping along with the free gift only when you purchase from Blender Babes, and the price is in USD. You can find the link here
I keep reading on a lot of reviews that the Blendtec tends to shake a lot when in use. Is that a concern over time, since shaking might result in spillage etc.? just wondering. Blendtec IS A LOT CHEAPER than vitamix lol , esp in my currency (Ringgit Malaysia) —
The Blendtec classic models may “dance” on a countertop (especially tiled) if blending lots of frozen fruit or ice. (The heavier Designer series don’t usually do this). So you may just need to hold it down for the first few seconds, but I have never had anything spill because of it. Yes they are less expensive AND more powerful! Hope that helps! 🙂 ~Tarashaun
They have some great deals on refurbished Blendtec models AND long payment plan options if that helps Joel. 🙂
Thank you guys so much for the review, it was very helpful now I know for sure that the vitamix is my blender of choice. How does the payment options work? Thank You.
Yay I’m so glad I could help!! Payment plans are available for both new and certified refurbished blenders. YAY! 🙂
You will see the payment plan option as you’re going through checkout for Vitamix with a link to apply (through Paypal).
Be sure to use our promo code 06-007974 for free shipping when ordering and forward your purchase confirmation email to freegift@blenderbabes.com to redeem our free gifts offer. 🙂 ~ Tarashaun
Hahaha! It’s happened with both Blendtec and Vitamix – but more blendtec because the lid is not AS secure as Vitamix. 😉
Awesome Paule! It will be the best investment in your health you could possible make! 🙂 Happy Holidays!
Shoot us an email if you have any questions after you watch our comparison videos XOXO
This was an excellent and very thorough review. It helped me decide which blended I want to purchase.
I bought a vitamix years ago for the manual controls but almost wish I had gotten a blendtec for the space-saving component.
Most of this information was REALLY useful and helpful. Price isn’t much of a factor/issue as I know they are BOTH pricy but well worth the investment. Size, capacity, noise and container were probably the most pertinent factors for me. And, I loved the close up of the controls — that side-by-side is something I don’t recall ever seeing before in Blendtec vs Vitamix comparison posts.
This actually HELPED tremendously!! Seriously, saves me so much time from more research! With that being said, I believe a Bledtec is what I’m going to be purchasing. I intend on doing a lot of flours and grinding of dry ingredients and making it butters, I also want to make smoothies and soups, and the Blendtec seems like the better choice for me!! Thank you for your time and commitment to insure that we all get the best idea of what blender is best for each of us. Your research was impeccable and very impressive! It covered areas I wouldn’t have even thought of, like the blade style or noise level! Super great great! Thank you, thank you!
This post is super helpful! I had tried the ninja professional blender and hated it so I’m in the market for a new blender. Thanks a bunch!
Which blender will do the best job of pulverizing the little seeds of raspberries and strawberries so the smoothie comes out totally smooth, I have gut trouble and I don’t want those pesky critters getting stuck in diverticula?
Hey Sheriyn! I completely understand NEEDING to pulverize those berry seeds! I did a Blendtec vs Vitamix Berry Seed test and you can find the results here. The Vitamix gets berry seeds better than any blender I’ve tested (so far!) however there are still very tiny bits of seeds. If you have diverticulitis I would still run the a berry smoothie through a nut milk bag or sieve with tiny holes (I use a 20 gauge in my testing) to remove all traces of seeds. Hope that helps! ~Tarashaun
Thank you for the info. I wish I had all this before I bought my Ninja. I have one question. What do you mean when you say that you can’t make small amounts in either blenders? I’m single, so I only make about 16-24oz at a time. Are you saying I can’t do that with either of these and would have to make 32-64oz and have the leftovers in the frid for the rest of the week?
Hey Karyn, great question! No you can definitely make 16-24 ounces at a time with the standard jars for each blender, you do not have to fill to capacity. They both do offer smaller jars however if it makes it easier to not make so much (I tend to make more if the jar is bigger!). I would say try out the standard jars and if you still want to make even smaller portions consider an additional smaller jar which you can use for other type of small portions (sauces, purees, nut butters, etc.)
Thank you SO much for your detailed review! I have been researching hi speed blenders and am still unsure of which is the best option for my needs. I really want to stay in the $400 price range. I plan to use my blender most frequently for making nut milks and nut butters plus smoothies. I need an option that will let me make smoothies for one as well as for my family of 4. I have been using my nutri bullet for awhile now, but it does not produce as smooth of a smoothie as I would like with all the “super food boosts” I like to add in and I need to make a quart of nut milk in two batches, which is a pain. My concern about the Vitamix from reviews I’ve read is that the 64 oz container does not allow for small batches, but will a 48 oz container be big enough?!. Ugh. Do you have any thoughts on which would be the best blender for my needs? Making this decision has been agonizing and way too time consuming!
Yes I see you’ve been using a NutriBullet on your blog! 🙂 This is a common question and I totally get it’s a big decision for such an investment. You have come to the right place! These are the best blenders for smoothies, but they can also easily make nut milks, nut butters as well as batters, dips, etc. Regarding containers: The tall 64 oz standard Vitamix container can do all the things you need in smaller batches, however the 64 oz low profile compact container (mostly on the Next Generation vitamix models) CANNOT make small batches. I would recommend getting a 32 oz jar over the 48 oz if you want to make really small amounts but want the low profile container. It’s a similar thing with the Blendtec as their Wildside Jar is big and cannot make small portions and I highly recommend the standard Twister Jar for small portions and it makes nut butters a BREEZE. It really comes down to which features you want (automatic settings, manual, power), the look and feel you want, and then picking the one that best fits your budget! Luckily both companies offer payment plans as well as 30 day money back guarantees in order to try out the blender and see if you like it. 🙂 I hope that helps! If you have any more questions please feel free to ask! 🙂 ~ Tarashaun
I currently have a NutriBullet but have been considering purchasing a Blendtec orVitamix. The biggest issue I have with the NutriBullet is that it makes my smoothies foamy. And I “think” my smoothies are foamy because I cannot control the speed and they are blending too long (but only blending long enough to get a smooth consistency). Do you have any thoughts on why I’m getting foamy smoothies. I’ve tried all sorts of combinations — some with greens, some without. It just seems like if I can control the speed of the blender, I won’t have foamy tasting smoothies.
Hey Colleen! Yes I have noticed as well. Blendtec, Vita mix and other high speed blenders also produce foam in their smoothies (but mostly when they are green) due to all the insoluble fiber. There’s a few things you can do to help get rid of green smoothie foam and you can learn more about them here. My favorite thing is just to add a small amount of healthy fat (avocado or coconut oil). Let me know how it works out for you!
I want to know the Customer Service HISTORY and CS RELIABILITY of each company. You see I once owned a Vitamix, for eight months. The spindle the blades were attached to actually broke. (it was a stainless steel blending cup at that time) I called to get the blending cup replaced on my “Lifetime Warranty” and was told they could not because they didn’t have that model any longer. (I bought this brand new) and was advised to purchase a newer model.
Therefore I have banned Vitamix from my household as dirty underhanded criminals since I spent $278 in 1991-92. *** Before you think I got a deal consider that “$278.00 in 1992 had the same buying power as $476.82 in 2016. Annual inflation over this period was 2.27%.” http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm
I cannot afford to throw upwards of $300 at a company that is underhanded and will not provide Customer Service under ANY valid warranty.
So where is the data concerning broken items, repairs and returns?
Hey Namma thank you so much for reaching out! I haven’t heard very many issues with Vitamix customer service – especially now. They definitely should have handled your situation better with your previous model! Both companies are pretty well known for excellent customer service now. Vitamix warranties their new blender for 7 years top to bottom and 5 year for their refurbished vitamix models. Vitamix also offers a 30 day money back guarantee to try their blender and will pay for return shipping plus a full refund. So does Blendtec however they will not pay for return shipping. Blendtec warranties for 8 years top to bottom and 7 years for their refurbished blendtec models. For repairs under warranty you send it in and Vitamix and Blendtec pay to send it back. If it’s beyond warranty you will pay for shipping both ways. Please let me know if you have any further questions or you can contact me direct!
I’ve heard you can blend chicken bones in the Vitamix. What do you think about that, and would you use the wet or the dry jar? I want to make home made cat food.
That’s awesome Raeann! I’ve never tried blending bones, only chicken meat for burgers. First: I would call Vitamix and ask them this very specific question, b/c I wouldn’t want to tell you one thing and if it does damage the jar/blender and it’s not covered under warranty I would be upset! Second: If I was blending bones I’d use a Blendtec 😉 Will It Blend? NO PROBLEM with that blade! If I only had a Vitamix though, I would use the dry jar…
I own a Vitamix and my family loves Vanilla Ice cream. We are not vegans. Using bananas is good, but sometimes we need the old-fashion Vanilla ice cream. How can we make it in the Vitamix?
I completely understand Sahara! You can get the recipe for real Vitamix Vanilla Ice Cream Here. Freezing the milk (or non-dairy milk) into ice cubes is the key (instead of using regular ice). It makes it nice and creamy! If you want to freeze it, you can try adding some guar gum. HAPPY BLENDING!
I have done a lot of reading and researching on which model to buy and I am left with just one question now: Do I honestly really need the 32 oz dry grains container? Vitamix maintains that should be used if mixing grains but some reviews say the wet container works just fine. I do make flour, nut butter and bread regularly. Help?
Thank you!
Hey DRT! Yes you have heard right, the Vitamix wet jar can handle dry goods (watch as we test this by grinding cornmeal with the Vitamix wet jar and dry jar here), however if you plan to make flour regularly, I would suggest getting the dry jar. (I usually find Vitamix containers cheaper here on Amazon). It’s built specifically for this purpose. Occasional grinding with your wet jar is fine, however over time if you do it a lot you the blades will not be as sharp. You CAN send the jar to Vitamix for complimentary sharpening, but then you would be without a jar for awhile. 🙂
Hi,
Thanks for providing such a comprehensive review of the blenders. I went through 7 different website and this is by far the most detailed.
I love that you covered the smaller yet important details such as the containers are easy to clean and don’t absorb odors. This is one of the things you forget to think about when buying a blender and especially one which you plan on using for the next 5 years plus.
I am a few months away from moving out from my parents nest and I am excited to get my own blender. I currently use a juicer and it is a pain in the backside to clean!
Most of the reviews I’ve read don’t favour one over the other so I am just going to go with the Blendtec purely based on design and the ability that I can walk away from it.
Thank you again for helping me with making the decision. Would like to help me pick a model and colour also?
Hey Quynh! Thanks for your feedback! Yes we’d be happy to help you choose a model and color. If you are going with Blendtec, you will want to review our Blendtec Designer Series and Blendtec Classic Series Comparison reviews. It will detail the features to help you decide what is most important to you. 🙂
I got a Blendtec and I am very happy with it. For me the best part about it is that it is so easy to clean. The jar can go in the dishwasher but I usually hand wash it (since I use it daily) and it is really nice not to have to worry about the sharp blade when you are sticking your hand in there.
Thanks for the great post. I have been trying to decide with blender to buy for some time. I am eating dairy free and would like to try making some substutions with cashews, blended into chesses etc. You must have a high speed blender for this. I love making smoothies too. These are an investement either way. Thanks again
Hey Colleen! Welcome to the club! I think we have so many dairy-free recipes because a couple of our team members are lactose intolerant and/or vegan. A power blender such as a Blendtec or Vitamix can definitely make blending nuts, seeds, and cheese alternatives a breeze! Hope it helped you decide which blender is best for you! 🙂
Found the section in cleaning and smoothies very helpful! Love that the Blendtec can go in the dishwasher and is easier to clean without the sharp blades!
It’s the best investment in your health Paola! Both brands also have payment plans which is very helpful. 🙂
I have tried the Blendtec which I love, although there are times when I think a tamper would be helpful. I haven’t tried the smaller jar, but definitely think there are times when it would be useful. These are wonderful machines & make the best smoothies!!
Agreed Laura! We are looking into an aftermarket tamper for those occasions when it would be helpful! 🙂
Since becoming vegan, smoothies are a huge part of my eating habits! Definitely going to purchase one of them since I’m tired of chunks in my smoothies!
Yes a commercial grade blender/power blender is essential for a vegan diet. Nobody likes chunky smoothies! 😉
I have a Blentec but a cheaper model that I got at Costco. It is a bit confusing because it doesn’t have all the buttons that most of the recipes state therefore I don’t think I am using it to it’s full potential. There is much more I could be doing with it.
I liked the review part pertaining to the Capactiy/Volume. Apart from blending, I like to use blenders to measure a lot of large volume things so I need the markings to be easy to read and different units available.
That’s a really interesting point Ayesha, thank you! It’s one of the things that bugs us about other blenders’ jars. I love being able to easily see the black capacity/volume on Blendtec jars. 🙂
Very good review, I always thought the vitamix was the best out there on the market, but y’all have proven me wrong!!!! I love how much more affordable Blendtec is too compared to the vitamix. Thank you
I would love either one. Tired of breaking cheap blenders!
I love this post! I have been debating this for some time and this confirmed my preferences for blendtec! **maybe for christmas** I love the setting options and the preset speeds. Blendtecs seem so powerful.
Thanks blender babes for the review! I’ve been recently looking into purchasing a new blender and this comparison has helped me a ton. Plus the promo codes are equally as helpful! ☺️ I’ve had a cheap blender from Walmart that I’ve been using for years, but I’m tired of having to stop it every couple of minutes to mix it myself due to the lack of power my blender seems to have. I’ve always wanted a good high speed blender that I can use to just blend whatever I desire. And the other amazing part I found is that these blenders come with a juicer, and I’ve always wanted to make my own juices! Thanks babes!
Awesome Elizah! So happy we helped you make the decision to upgrade! 🙂 Yes these power blenders can make a whole food juice – you should definitely try our free juice detoxHAPPY BLENDING!
love blendtec as it’s more automatic compared to vitamix!
Yes all Blendtec’s are automatic! Thankfully Vitamix has now added more blender models with automatic settings – it’s SO MUCH EASIER! 🙂
I have a BlendTec, and I love it. I always get great consistency, and things break down really well.
I have a Ninja that I use almost everyday but I’m looking for something more powerful. I have read many reviews about both blenders but so far this has been the best! I am a big fan of quick and easy and the Blendtec is dishwasher safe! Total plus in my book! Thanks for taking the time to help “on the fence” people like myself.
Thanks Cara! We appreciate the feedback! 🙂
I have been a vegan for almost 4 months now, and I am dying to start trying out smoothies. This post gave me the info I needed to make my first blender purchase.
Awesome Alecia! Congrats on your new health journey – we’re so excited for you to start blending up lots of healthy vegan recipes! Luckily we’ve got a ton to get you started! 🙂
They’re the best Kimberly! Hope we’ve helped you decide which one is best for you, your needs and your budget. 🙂
Thanks Eliza! Once you get one you’ll never look back! Or probably have to buy another blender again. 🙂 Glad we helped you and hope you find the perfect blender for YOU!
I appreciated this very thorough review. I have a Vitamix, and while I love it, there have been a few things that make me wonder if I shouldn’t have purchased a Blendtec instead. They are both amazing blenders but if I had it to do all over again I would buy a Blendtec. It may sound silly but my number one reason for that is I hate the indentations on the sides of the Vitamix jars–they make it really tough for me to scrape things out when I make non-runny things like hummus, tahini and other thick dips, ice cream, etc. Thank you for this post!
Thanks for the honest feedback Angie! I’ve had that same issue with the Vitamix jar, it’s not silly at all! The blade of the blendtec jar also allows for getting everything from under the blade and out of the jar easily with a spatula, which is nice too. 🙂
Cost and performance is most important to me. I can’t tell you how many blenders I have owned that do not meet my expectations. I need a high performance blender and you have pointed out many good points to help me choose which one is right for me and my needs.
This is so helpful as I have a cheap (pretty crappy) blender that I try to use for making hummus, smoothies, etc. but which I struggle a lot with. Super helpful! Thanks so much!
Really good review! Thank you! I especially liked learning about the ability of the Blendtec to grind grain. And, yes, I do like the Blendtec for it’s dull blade. I know that when my teenagers clean the blender, they will not get accidentally cut.
I enjoyed your Blendtec vs Vitamix Review very much. To me, the most important thing about a blender is the power. I figure, the more power, the better it will blend. Again.. excellent review!
This was a great post for when I was debating between Blendtec and Vitamix! Really helped me decide
Yes the tamper is either a love it or hate it thing. 🙂
Yes Kirsten! And they both have payment plans, including on the refurbished Vitamix and Blendtec. Plus with free shipping and our free gifts, you’ll be on your way to a healthier lifestyle! 🙂
I am a health/fitness nut! I am studying to get certified for Nutrition and Personal Training. I have been interested in juicing for awhile and would love this!!
Yes Lacey! And a Vitamix or Blendtec blender does SO MUCH MORE than a traditional juicer! 🙂
Hi….awesome article…I need a blender which will make cashew cream & similar raw items…do these blenders create a flawless cream or does it end up slighty grainy? Trying to avoid the $2000+ for a thermomix….thanks!!
Wow Sheree, $2000+ is A LOT! You can definitely make cashew creams with these blenders. However for raw foodists, our recommendation is any Blendtec blender along with getting the Blendtec Twister Jar. Matthew Kenney owns many raw restaurants as well as teaches raw and vegan cooking courses – he uses a Blendtec over Vitamix – especially with the Blendtec Twister Jar b/c it works fastest for these types of recipes and doesn’t heat the contents. For example, when we make nut butters with a Vitamix or Blendtec in their regular jars – the blender is working very hard and will heat the nuts – making it impossible to make a raw nut butter.
Hi!
I’m really torn between blendtec & vitamix still after reading this article & the reviews. I’ll be using it mainly for baby food & smoothies – but still want to use all the other features (ice cream, soups, etc.). I want something cost effective – so probably a less expensive model/refurbished. You didn’t divulge much about the models within the brands too much.. have you done much with the cheaper ones like the blendtec classic or total, or the vitamix c-series? I think I’m leaning toward the refurbished blendtec designer but I just want to know if all the tests you’ve done are with more expensive models.
Yes! Great questions. We started with (and still use!) both Blendtec Classic and Vitamix C-series blender. Most of our tests are done with these blenders. If you want to make baby food, you’re probably going to want the Blendtec Twister Jar – it’s best for thick purees and/or small amounts.
I know Vitamix offers “free two way shipping” for in warranty repairs. It looks like Blendtec doesn’t. Please clarify, thanks!
That correct Jerry. Vitamix offers free two way shipping during the 30 day trial period. Blendtec also has a 30 day trial period and will refund the purchase but they do not pay for return shipping. Hope that helps clarify.
My friend has a Vitamix and I’ve been having blender envy for awhile. I’ve recently taken a big look at my diet and have been trying to eat a more clean diet and adding green’s to smoothies as that is one of my biggest deficits. My blender is barely limping along so I need to get a new one. I was thinking to go the same one my friend has but in going through your reviews, I really like the Blendtec.
My uses would be smoothies (w/protein powders, greens, frozen fruit, ice, flax/chia seeds), almond milk, nut butters, hummus, salsas and soups.
One of my biggest concerns with the Blendtec is I do single serving smoothies and afraid I would end of wasting in the Blendtec. I like that the Vitamix has the personal use go cups.
Thanks for sharing Pamela! Interesting points. Both blenders can do all the things yo want to make with it! With Blendtec you can make pretty small servings of smoothies even with the Wildside Jar. Vitamix only has the personal use cups with the Vitamix S-Series models – which are not as powerful as their other models. Personally we make our smoothies and if we need to take it To Go, just pour it in our MANY mason jars or other various to go containers. 🙂 Both have great deals on refurbished vitamix and blendtec options. Hope that helps with your concerns! Excited for you to upgrade! You’ll never look back. 🙂
I bought my Blendtec about 2 weeks ago. And I love it! I got the Designer series 625 in Polar White for 3 reasons. I like the automatic settings, the aesthetic look, and both brands seem pretty equal.
Thanks for sharing Judy!! Glad you’re loving your new Blendtec! 🙂 HAPPY BLENDING!
I just took a barista class and they used Blendtec. I guess I’m sort of leaning in that direction……
How fun Kris!! Would love to take a Barista class! 🙂 We need to add more blended coffee drinks to BlenderBabes.com 🙂
Fantastic article! Read through the whole article plus all of the comments from 2013 and all of 2015, and I still have a question. (It’s probably hidden in the 2014 comments!) I have wanted a Vitamix for 20 years! Never heard of Blendtec until your website. So, now I’m even more confused! haha… I will be making small batches of nut milks and butters primarily, along with green smoothies. Either machine out-perform in this area?
Great question Lori! They can both easily create a nut milk. In terms of nut butters, I recommend seeing our Nut Butter Blend Off. With Blendtec it’s much easier to make nut butters and other thick (smaller) blends such as ice cream, purees, etc.with the Twister Jar but that’s an additional fee.
Vitamix models that come with the tall Vitamix 64 container you can make smaller portions, but with the low profile 64 oz container you would need an additional 32 oz container as well. You can see better in our Vitamix container review.
If you have wanted a Vitamix for 20 years, go for it! They do have a great 30 day guarantee to try it out! You can try it out and return it if you don’t like it, and they PAY FOR RETURN SHIPPING, unlike Blendtec. Hope that helps with your decision! HAPPY BLENDING (SOON!)! ~Tarashaun
Thank you for this informative article! I’m researching, and your comparison is the best I’ve seen…I’m leaning towards the Blendtec – need to get more raw foods in my diet, and what could be easier?
Thanks again!
You are welcome RC! Thanks for the feedback. Let us know which Blendtec model you decide to get and why! 🙂
Just splurged and bought the blendtec designer 6?? (cake with a free twister cup). I hope I made the right decision. Their “Welcome to Blendtec” book really lacks in the recipe department. Can you please point me in a good starting direction since I’m brand new to the whole idea of a multi-use blender in the home. If it helps, we bought it bc I just finished the 5-day Suja juice cleanse and really want to stay on a healthy track but not necessarily only drink juice 6 times a day. 🙂 Thanks for the awesome review!
Ps. It was kind of neat to see the blender babes founder’s testimonial on the side of the box!
Welcome Jennifer! You definitely made a great decision for your health!
Yes the Blendtec recipe books are lacking. We have created and recommend several healthy free and paid programs to keep you going on your journey!
I LOVE Suja too 🙂 But you can’t do that all the time. The next time you want to try a cleanse, I think you’ll enjoy my 7 Day Blender Cleanse. It’s gentle cleanse that includes a clean meal plan and well as whole foods juices that won’t leave you starving, and will help you utilize that blender!
Happy Blending! ~Tarashaun
HAPPY BLENDING!
How can I get a refurbished 220v version of either ? Any advise appreciated
Hi Sam! You will have to contact Blendtec or Vitamix directly and they will help you with getting a 220v blender, if available. Sorry we can’t be of more help! Best of luck and hope you find the best blender for you!
I use a lot of frozen fruit in my smoothies to save time. Frozen strawberry, Frozen pear. The Blendtec had trouble with frozen fruit like Strawberries. (would often leave chunks at the end of the pre-programmed Smoothie function) Returned it and got a Vitamix. Vitamix blends frozen fruit much better than Blendec.
Thanks for the feedback Rudee! The automatic settings are an average time for a typical smoothie. For lots of frozen ingredients, or leafy greens, we usually use the Whole Juice or even Soup setting on our Blendtec, which is more powerful + more time. The Vitamix automatic settings are the same, or you can run it as long as you’d like with the manual setting. Glad you found the blender that’s best for YOU! HAPPY BLENDING! 🙂
I’ve got the super fun predicament of needing to choose between a Blendtec 570 and a Vitamix 750 (got both for my birthday, and need to return one of them!)
I only have both as is, and don’t know anything about the other jars or attachments I’d need to purchase separately, or how much they would cost comparatively. I’m most interested in making nut butters and grinding up gluten-free nut flours. Which blender would you recommend? Thanks!!
That is quite a predicament! Between the two, the Vitamix 750 has more features than the Blendtec 570 Classic. It’s their top of the line blender and you will LOVE IT. If you are looking to make nut butters, we think the Vitamix might be the best fit for you. The tamper will allow you to easily make thick mixtures without having to buy additional items. However if you plan to make A LOT of flour, you might want the additional Vitamix dry jar (it’s cheaper on amazon), but you can always get this later. The Blendtec can also make creamy butters, but we recommend getting the Twister Jar for this. This cost $119.95 on the Blendtec site. However the blendtec wet jar can also grind flours in the same jar. Tough decision! Let us know what you decide! 🙂
I went into this with a bias to prefer Vitamix. After trying / comparing both (looking at the newest 750 Pro Vitamix) I went with the Blentec! Shorter (15″), lighter so easier to move, sleeker more minimalist design, more powerful, lid comes off more easily, larger pitcher, blades are not sharp to the touch; programmable cycles are labeled with words, not just icons; and I found it less noisy even though reviews say it is more noisy than the Vitamix (maybe the Vitamix is fewer decibels, but the higher pitched sound of the Vitamix is annoying – like with the Nutribullet). It was $380CAD at COSTCO for the newest WildSide Blendtec; the newest Vitamix (it seems the 750 Pro has been modified to be more like the Blendtec actually – shorter but still won’t fit under my kitchen cabinets, larger pitcher, etc.) is $730CAD. And the Blendtec warranty is 8 instead of 7 years!! I’m happy!
Thanks for sharing Donna! Glad you found the best blender for you! 🙂
Update: Blendtec is no longer offering the 3-payment option, they say they took it down last week and have advised all affiliates to remove it from posts.
Since I was really interested in the 3-payment option, I decided to go with the Vitamix, they are still offering it.
Can’t wait to get my new blender!
Thanks for such an informative post and for the gift card!
Thanks for the update Nakia! We are told Blendtec will replace the 3 payment plan option with a financing option that will give even more flexibility to buyers! Looking forward to that! SO EXCITED for you and your new blender! 🙂
In the grinding section you mention how grinding a lot in the vitamix wet jar will eventually dull out the blades and eventually affect the results of your wet blending for smoothies, etc. Is it the same case with the Blendtec? Or will the Blendtec still perform just as good as day one on smoothies, etc if you grind a lot?
Great question Casey! The Blendtec blade is unique in that it is blunt rather than sharp, as well as up to 10x stronger than other blenders, so lots of grinding will not affect the Blendtec blade performance for other types of blends. Their jars can blend hot, wet, cold, and dry all in the same jar/blade no problem. 🙂 Hope that helps with your decision! We know it’s a tough one!
Your comparison is very informative. There are recent reviews on Amazon about Vitamix where folks are complaining about black flecks in their food. Vitamix reports that it comes from the seals and is food grade but who wants to eat that stuff. People were very disappointed. Are you aware of this problem with Vitamix? Do you know of a similar problem with Blendtec?
Hello Etta,
Yes we are very aware of the problem, and this is a common occurrence with high powered blenders, not just Vitamix. We’ve heard it happen with Waring, Blendtec, etc. According to the FDA it doesn’t harm us and passes through our system. We do believe certain companies are working to find ways to improve their design and avoid this.
Hi I’m still torn on which one to get abs which model. I cook a lot I make a lot of my own sauces, soups, nut milks, but butters and I’m liking the fact I can grind dry ingredients.
From this which one do you think would be best for me.
Thanks
Sorry I meant nut butters lol
Teresa, but butters sounds so much funnier! 😀 Both of these blenders can do all of these things. With the Vitamix, you can grind dry ingredients in the wet jar but if you plan to do a lot of grinding, the special dry goods jar is recommended. That said, the Blendtec jar can make nut butters (but butter too probably! Will it Blend?? 🙂 But it will be much easier with recommended Twister Jar. At this point, ask yourself which one you like aesthetically? which one will fit in your kitchen? Which one fits in your budget (with additional jars?)? You can always test both machines out for a month. Vitamix has a 30 day money back guarantee policy, and they pay shipping both ways. Blendtec also has a 30 day money back guarantee however they don’t pay for return shipping fees. We know it’s a tough decision! You WILL find the blender that’s best for you and your family! HAPPY BLENDING! 🙂
I was dead set on the Vitamix for years, but after reading about black flakes in the food without any resolution in sight I opted for the Blentec. I don’t regret it at all, I didn’t know about Blentec until I found this site, thank you for the comprehensive overview. I felt this site has great reviews on the pros and cons of both fabulous machines.
Thanks for the feedback Keri! Yes many people discover Blendtec when researching the best blenders on the market. 🙂 Glad to hear our prix and cons and comprehensive blendtec vs vitamix review helped with your decision! That’s our goal. 🙂 Congrats on making a great investment in your health! HAPPY BLENDING!
I heard the blendtec is rumoured to leak at the bottom, have you heard about this and is it true?
Hello Chris and welcome! We’ve never had a leaky jar and have not heard of it leaking, but it’s probably happened to someone – just like with any blender there’s always ones with defects. The jars have been upgraded from several years ago and Blendtec is constantly innovating and improving their products. They do come with a 7 or 8 year warranty so you’re covered! Hope that helps and HAPPY BLENDING!
Thank you for a comprehensive comparison of two great blenders. Thorough information on both and appears unbiased. A lot of information on both. Thank you again.
You’re welcome Jasu! We hope it helped you with your decision on which one is best for YOU! 🙂 HAPPY BLENDING!
I was leaning towards Vitamix..however the black spec showing up in the container and mixing with food. I was wondering if you guys have come across this issue with the Vitamix 750?
Does the blentec Classic make soups and ice creams or just the designer series? If not, what else can you do with the Classic besides smoothies?
Hi Nicole! Great question. The Blendtec Classic can do everything that the Designer can do. It depends on which model you get. The Total Blender Classic refurbished has 6 pre-programmed settings, 10 manual speeds, and a PULSE button. The newer Classic Models have fewer features than the Total Blender Classic, with less pre-programmed settings (which we love), but you can accomplish the same things by using the manual speeds. Hope that helps answer your questions!
I have had my Blendtec for just under a year and it sounds as if the motor is going out. Oil constantly leaks after every use and parts of the Blender pop out. It makes a very high pitch sound while trying to make smoothies, etc. Not sure if this is a common problem but it definitely has NOT lasted. Good luck!
That blender DEFINITELY needs to be returned under warranty! Sounds like a lemon! Thanks for sharing your experience Kelly. We’re sure they will handle it ASAP. HAPPY’ER BLENDING! 😀
I ordered a Vitamix in December and I believe that there was a promo going on that if I ordered the Vitamix before December 31 using the Blender Babes code I would receive 3 spatulas that fit with the vitamix. But, I haven’t heard anything back from when I emailed inquiring about it.
Hey Kimberlie! I don’t think we received your email. Can you please send it again to freegift@blenderbabes.com?
I spent all day agonizing over Vitamix vs Blendtec. Your review helped tremendously. I just ordered a reconditioned Vitamix 750. Wish me luck. I’d love to be a recipe tester.
Jules
Congratulations Jules and WELCOME!! We are SO EXCITED for you! We have a reconditioned Vitamix 750 and it’s the Ferrari of Vitamix blenders! We absolutely LOVE it! You can apply to be a recipe tester here. We do need experienced blender users, so get some practice making different kinds of recipes with it and then apply! 🙂 HAPPY BLENDING!
Thank you for your review. I have a question: can you separate the blades from the jar in any of them ( vitamix or blende tec)?
Great question Liliana. The blade cannot be separated from the jar in either Blendtec or Vitamix blenders, EXCEPT the new Vitamix S30 Personal Blender does have a removable blade. By not having to separate the blade, it is much easier to clean and the blendtec blade is blunt so no worry about being super careful. 🙂 Hope that helps!
My family always calls me for product opinions because they know that I research all my decisions to the edge of insanity.Having decided to purchase either one of these blenders for my daughter I don’t think I’ve missed a site or many videos. It’s been frustrating though because it feels like I’m in the middle of an Apple/Android debate (no windows still doesn’t get to join in) where each side is so defensive of their brand that they refuse to be impartial. Although I’ve heard many compliments about reviews being impartial they always come from the owners of the product that the reviewer favored. Yours is the only totally honest, impartial comparison I have seen! I also loved the honesty in pointing out the “whole truths” like the fact that you don;t always have to pound a Vitamix with a Tamper and a short hit on the pulse button will make Blendtec’s smoothies as fine as Vitamix’s. Good to hear about Blendec’s customer service. i was a little concerned since their company doesn’t seem to be interested in offering improvements that would compete with Vitamix like a better lid or optional tamper (as a “techie” the news that Vitamix was successfully sued by Blendix for trying to copy its jar is considered a compliment to Vitamix for recognizing and attempting to compensate for their shortcomings). That said I choose the Blendtec (older Designer model because according to their site, research for the newest model has determined that customers really want less features and no improvements even if it costs more to get it) with the Twister jar for the auto programs and the blade which can’t get dull (BTW it’s the same as the blade on my coffee grinder) and is child safer.
Forgot to mention that I got it at Macy’s because they had a sale which made it half price and I signed up for their credit card which took an additional 20 percent off making it cheaper than anyone including Costco. If my daughter chooses to return it for Vitamix then we’ll probably go refurbished.
You should make allowances in your commentary for all the Blender-Guys out there. I’m not picky, but still would rather not be called a Blender-Babe 😉
Ha!! We think men are “Babes” too! Would you prefer Blender Hunks? Blender Men? Blender Dudes? 😀
Can anyone tell me if you can grind/chop meat. Can you make “hamburger”
Thanks
Hey Dale and WELCOME! Yes absolutely you can make hamburger meat. We JUST tested this and finished up a post, great timing! 🙂 Here is our meat grinding how to for either a Blendtec or Vitamix blender.
Great review but am still undecided! I seen the Blendtech demo last year at Sams and loved it!
Wish I could make up my mind!
The Blendtec is the better model for a few reasons, chief among them is that you never have to touch or “tamp” the food since the design of the container forces everything to the middle. Also, I think the strong dull blade idea, over the sharp and eventually dull knife, is superior given they both seem to finish the same…Also, I do not like the height of the Vitamix, and lastly, Blendtec seems to be about $150 cheaper, so you don’t compromise performance for price, although this is a personal choice for everyone……imo, of course…
Hi, which jar would you recommend on the next gen Vitamix, for nut butters. Not sure if the wet container, or dry container would be best. Many thanks.
Great question Jim! To make nut butter it works best with the wet blade containers, so you would need to get the 48oz or 32oz wet jar The 64oz wet jar is not recommended on Vitamix Next Generation models. Personally I would get the 48oz jar. 🙂 It’s great to have a smaller container for small portions as well, since the Next Generation 64oz jar has a 4 inch base and is wider, needing more ingredients to blend properly. However if think you will use the dry jar, you can still make nut butter and then you can also make nut flour and grind other dry goods. HOPE THAT HELPS! 🙂
Yes it does. Thanks very much.
I bought the blendec 2 years ago…most fabulous blender/ juicer ever! Powerful, cleans up well and small enough to sit under cabinets. Highly recommend.
You say that the vitamix comes with a 7 year warranty. But when i go to purchase it says free 5 year or to pay for a 8 year.
Hey Robby! All new Vitamix models come with a 7 year warranty, however it’s 5 years for the refurbished with an option to upgrade to 8 years. We don’t think you need to pay for the additional upgrade for refurbished. Vitamix are built like tanks! 😀
Thanks for the reply. I’m still trying to make up my mind if I want to do the blendtec or vitamix. I Use current blender to make shakes smoothies and salsa. And it stays on the counter under the top cabinet. Would you have a suggestion? I’m leaning for blendtec because the size but like that vitamix has the middle piece to stir. Please let me know any suggestions. Thanks!!!
Hey Robby! The Vitamix Next Generation are usually short enough to fit under most kitchen cabinets. You can get the two available models refurbished (Next Generation and Next Generation with Programs) for less – which are LIKE NEW. Hope that helps! HAPPY BLENDING!
Every few seconds the page moves up or down a few lines. This jumping around and makes reading your content a fairly miserable experience.
Thanks Chris!! We are working on it! 🙂 Appreciate you letting us know, and your patience!
Great review and very informative. I had problems reading it due to constant text shifting, which I believe was caused by some size changing ads you have on the page. I understand the need for ads, but if you could make them a constant size instead, it would make for a much better reading experience.
Thank you! We’re working on fixing this issue 🙂
I would love to have a Vitamix I have had several cancers and several other surgeries. My Doctor told me to get away from processed foods and start eating greens and fruit no meat unless fish and much more detailed instructions, a Vitamix would make my life so much easier and so much healthier. Thank you for the opoportunity!
Roberta
The first thing I would make is something nice for my beautiful wife.
first thing to make would be a green smoothie or juice of course!
I would make chocolate smoothies
Thanks so much for sharing this comparison – it is incredibly helpful. The first thing I’d make would be my favorite juice – apple/carrot/ginger/beet. I used to have a juiceman but it was sucha pain to clean – I won’t miss that!
I would do my very own Vitamix vs Blendtec comparison! Then I would probably still have to keep the blendtec, because I doubt my mother would give up the Vitamix… 😛
First thing I would make with a Blendtec would be a green smoothie
I’d grind some wheat then make some wheat bread. My husband would be so happy!
I would make smoothies!
I Would make almond butter. Yum!!
I would make ice cream 🙂 with Spinach.
I would make some raw almond butter!
Thanks for the thorough evaluation!
The first thing I’d do with my blendtec would be my morning smoothie 🙂
I would make smoothies!
The first thing I would do with this blender is grab handfuls of my frozen fruit and make a smoothie.
I would make a berry smoothie
First thing I’d make is a cashew cream – I just can’t get it smooth enough in my cheap blender or food processor. I need some Blendtec power!
LOVE IT!! Cashew cream is amazing! What do you usually use it for? 🙂
I would make a super green smoothie…
The first thing I would make is a vanilla matcha latte with almond milk!
I’m so glad I found this review! I have been struggling between the two. Some people swear by the Vitamix and some swear by the Blendtec.. very hard to get perspective from an objective point of view. Thanks!
You are welcome! Glad you found us too 🙂
I would love to make fresh smoothies for my family every morning!
I’m going to make hummus
I would make a GGS! Tons of it!
I would make a orange/banana smoothie.
I would make smoothies!
Pecan butter. This is so outrageously good it will give you the shivers. MMMmmm
NOM NOM NOM!! LOVE IT! 🙂
I make yuca dough frequently and lately my food processor has been struggling to keep up. Thanks for the awesome reviews on the blenders! You’ve done a lot of the research for me 🙂
I have a few things on my menu when I get a BlendTec Blender starting with Pina Coladas and Fresh N Spicy Guacamole to show off my new blender to my girlfriends. Then I am going to make my own rice milk. I’ve been drinking rice milk for a while and would love to be able to make it without the trip to the grocery store.
The first thing I would make would be a nutritious veggie drink! I don’t get enough vegetables and I tried to make them in my blender and it ruined the blender so now I don’t have one. Regular blender’s are not made for this, the motor isn’t strong enough. So I would get back on my veggie drinks that I miss so much. I like to make the apple, spinach, mix. It’s so great! Full of vitamins! Next would be soups! Fresh veggie soups. So healthy and filling and perfect for this cooler fall weather!
I’d make smoothies for my hubby and my kiddo!
I would make a smoothie with Romaine Lettuce, Bananas, Pomegranate Seeds, Raw Pecans, Hemp Seeds, Ground Cinnamon, Ground Cloves, Fresh Ginger Root, Almond Milk, and ice. Sounds yummy doesn’t it.
If I could get a machine to help make vegatable/fruit smoothies I just know I will be healthier and properly get a handle on my diabetes and chron’s disease. Oh how I wish.
The first thing I would make with my Blendtec would be black bean brownies!
I would make smoothies first with my new blendtec!
I plan on making a green smoothie with spinach, kale, cucumber, wild orange essential oil, and probably mango with my blender if I win.
Great comparision! I have always been a blendtec blender fan. They just perform so well!
I would make a peanut butter banana smoothie!
This article was super helpful!
Great review! The first thing I would make in my new Blendtec is a green smoothie. I make them each morning and struggle with my regular blender. It’d be great to have to the smoothie smooth and not have to do so much prep on the greens!
Re: B twister: does it make low temperature/cold pressed equivalent nut butters/salsa/mayo and so on?
What is the largest quantity that can be made per use?
Who sells it for the least price?
…Great site!
Steve
Hi Steve and WELCOME to Blender Babes! I use my Twister Jar to make nut butters and I’m sure you could make those other things as well. Especially with the nuts, though, it does get warm during the process, produced by the friction between the nuts and the extremely fast blades. The Twister Jar really only makes about 8oz at a time easily, but for less solid things (i.e. mayo) you could make large quantities in the WildSide or FourSide jar. You can get a Certified Refurbished Blendtec starting at $279 right here at BlenderBabes, which is the best deal available, especially if you use our code to get free shipping + Amazon Gift Card! Thanks for stopping by and Happy Blending!
I would make a smoothie.
I would make smoothies galore! As well as soups and nut butters. Yuuuuuum!
Thanks for all the great info. Just a note blendtec also has a grain mill for just over $100 if you are gluten free and grind chickpeas or other legumes. Using the normal jar will degrade the blades over time. Another thing to consider blendtec vs vitamix is that the blades are not as thick or strong on the vitamix and resulted in multiple safety recalls.
I saw a demo at costco and was pretty impressed. After working at Williams and Sonoma I thought I was sold but I was wrong! These are the blenders you see in Starbucks used for your frappachino. For the more realistic price and quieter motor I think im sold.
Thanks for the feedback and insights Kathleen! Glad you found the right one for you! 🙂
I would make smoothies
